FOR FIRST-TIME STUDENTS

If you are joining your first forró class, this section is for you.

Starting something new can feel uncertain, especially when you don’t know what the experience will be like. Our classes are designed to be welcoming, structured, and accessible, even if you have never danced before.

You don’t need prior experience.
You don’t need a partner.
You don’t need to feel “ready”.

You just need to show up.

To help you feel more confident and prepared, we’ve created a set of resources that walk you through the most common questions beginners have before their first class.

Start here:

Additional preparation:

These materials are designed to remove uncertainty and help you walk into your first class with clarity and confidence.

To give you a head start, you can also watch the video below with the basic forró steps and start getting familiar with the movements at your own pace before coming to class.

FOR INTERMEDIATE STUDENTS AND DANCERS LOOKING TO GROW

If you already have some experience with forró or other partner dances, our classes are structured to help you deepen your understanding and expand your vocabulary.

At this stage, progress is not only about learning more movements, but about refining how you move, connect, and listen to the music.

In our intermediate classes, we focus on:

  • expanding your repertoire with new variations, combinations, techniques, and figures

  • refining the relationship between leading and following, with greater clarity, sensitivity, and responsiveness

  • deepening your creativity and musicality, exploring how to interpret and respond to the music in more personal ways

  • refining technique to develop a more fluid, controlled, and stylistically expressive dance

Below, you’ll find a short video compiling the core movements typically taught in our beginner classes, guiding you from a complete beginner level into the foundations required for intermediate work.

These movements form the base of our intermediate classes, where we build on them to expand your repertoire and develop more advanced technique, connection, and musicality.

You can also explore this content in more detail in the article Go Beyond the Beginner Forró Steps and Movements!, where these foundations are broken down with additional context and guidance.

Additionally, we recommend The Beginner’s Checklist for Forró Dancers, a structured guide outlining the key skills and areas of development that support your progression from beginner to intermediate and advanced levels.
