ABOUT FORRÓ NEW YORK
Forró New York is a forró project based in New York City that produces weekly dance classes, social dance events, and online educational programs.
It was founded in 2017 by dancer, musician, Latin Grammy-nominated composer, and producer Rafael Piccolotto de Lima as an initiative to support and organize access to forró in New York City.
The project began as a platform for sharing information about the local forró scene, including classes, parties, concerts, and community gatherings. Over time, it evolved into a structured ecosystem that integrates in-person education, community building, and event production.
Today, Forró New York operates across three main areas: weekly group and private classes, regular social dance events in New York City, and online courses that extend its educational reach beyond the city. Together, these activities support the growth and continuity of the forró community locally and internationally.
Forró New York functions as a continuous cultural and educational project, connecting dancers, students, and teachers through shared practice and events centered on forró.
